The Original Guide
The Original Guide
by Howie17
*Note: “The Original Guide” was written from a perspective focusing on Hardcore S&D, specifically PAM4. I have since moved on to play many other mods including Softcore (Normal mode), ProMod, and DAMN:MW mod. I will better clarify which game mode I am focusing on in future posts/guides.
Introduction and Table of Contents
This section simply introduces the guide and gives context for when and why it was written as well as some reasons for why it is written the way that it is. Additionally there is a Table of Contents to give an overview with links to the individual sections: Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced, Team Tactics & Match Play, and Amendments.
Read it here.
Beginners: Mastering the Basics
The Beginners section was written to help individuals completely new to first-person-shooters to have a foundation to build upon. There are a few posts that even a more experienced player can benefit from for if nothing else a refresher. There are 18 individual posts in this section.

Intermediate: I’ve got the basics, now what?
Continuing on from the Beginners section, the Intermediate section builds upon the basics and introduces more advanced topics such as wall-spamming (banging), timing, pre-aim/firing, and predicting the enemie’s movements. There are 12 individual posts in this section.

Advanced: Teach me something I don’t already know
The advanced section requires a strong understanding of the tactics and techniques discussed in the prior sections grounded in experience. This section dives into being unpredictable and diversifying your routines to overcome well covered adversaries or just an overwhelming number of them. There are 6 individual posts in this section.

Team Tactics & Match Play: What can I expect from match oriented play?
Team Tactics & Match Play attempts to give someone new or looking to enter the competitive realm an idea of what to expect as well as the basics of how they should prepare to conduct themselves in a team environment. There are 3 individual posts in this section.

Amendments
As this guide developed I found that to write some sections other topics needed to be covered first to build upon, this is what the amendments were for. Most of the amendments have since been amended to the individual sections but a few I have left here as they are a little more miscellaneous and/or are good information regardless of skill level. There are 4 individual posts in this section.

Leadership in Public Play
Leadership in Public Play
By Howie17
What does it mean to be a leader in CoD4? Is it simply the guy at the top of the score board, the guy with the highest kills to deaths ratio, or is there something altogether more to it than even that - something perhaps indefinable? It is my opinion that these are not the attributes of a leader, but are often byproducts of being one. Its possible to have the worst score on the team and be the key factor in leading your team to victory. There’s no shame in that! -Howie17

An answer in the making to the question. I started these articles over a year ago, and never stopped to finish them. I post them now incomplete as they still point people in the right direction. This article is noticeably incomplete.
